Introdução:

Quando "American McGee's Alice" foi lançado para PC, mais de dez anos atrás, se destacou por ser uma versão sombria do clássico de literatura infantil "Alice no País das Maravilhas". Agora, o game recebe uma continuação, na forma de "Alice: Madness Returns".

A história do jogo continua os eventos da aventura anterior, que revelou que toda a família de Alice morreu em um incêndio terrível, levando a jovem à loucura pela perda trágica. Após dez anos no hospício, ela cai em um buraco de coelho e chega ao enigmático País das Maravilhas - que de maravilhoso não tinha nada - que fica ainda mais distorcido por causa de seu estado mental delicado.

Nesta sequência, Alice está de volta a Londres, livre do hospício onde vivia, mas sob os cuidados de um psiquiatra. Um ano se passou e Alice não apresenta melhoras, ainda sofrendo com alucinações e pesadelos. A heroína retorna ao País das Maravilhas para descobrir a verdade sobre o seu passado. O game apresenta a mesma atmosfera sombria do original, mas com gráficos condizentes aos consoles atuais.

Os cenários de "Madness Returns" são escuros, sombrios e bizarros. A arquitetura do País das Maravilhas transmite a sensação de que algo está levemente sempre fora do lugar. A personagem Alice é descrita pelo criador do jogo, American McGee, como forte, bonita e confiante, mas McGee também comentou que a personagem pode ser uma versão idealizada de si mesma no País das Maravilhas e portanto, apresentar um comportamento diferente no "mundo real".
